About this Course

This program – Draft Patent Claims – focuses on drafting claims, patenting in key jurisdictions and prior art.

Candidates who attend this program can look forward to hearing a distinguished local practitioner lecture and share experiences and exam techniques on the topics. The lectures take a three pronged approach to cover drafting patent applications holistically.

Theory – covering patent drafting, timeline of a patent application and comparison between jurisdictions.

Skills – writing claims, specialist/advanced claim drafting topics.

Assessment – real practice scenarios with individual feedback on areas for improvement.

At the end of the course, participants will possess knowledge on:

  • identifying the invention concept
  • defining the invention- categories of claims
  • drafting claims in different areas such as biotechnological inventions, computer-implemented inventions, medical inventions and more.
  • identifying faults and good drafting practices with sample claims.

This course is intended for those who already have a basic understanding of patents and will provide, through homework assignments and in-class work, exposure to the actual practice of patents. The program also includes rigorous training for those intending to pursue the Singapore Patent Agents Qualifying Examinations.
