About this Course

Cloud Computing is an important and developing technology and will in time fundamentally change the way we all access and use IT resources . With exciting bundled services from companies such as Amazon’s EC2, Microsoft’s Azure, Google’s App Engine, Force’s SalesForce and open sources solutions such as Ecalyptus, and OpenStack, more small and medium sized organization would want to take advantage of public cloud resources. Recognising the great potential of Cloud Computing as the upcoming distributed computing paradigm and the importance of providing a vendor neutral curriculum on the subject , ISS wishes to pursue the launch of cloud computing public short course. This course is intended as a short course for the public and suitable for practitioners who want a holistic view of the cloud computing landscape, during migration of their existing enterprise applications. Practitioners take this course to have a more complete view of the cloud economics and technology. On completion of this course, participants would be able to: 1. Understand the basic motivation for cloud computing 2. Understand the economics of cloud computing a. Understand the possible ROI b. Make appropriate business cases for cloud paradigm 3. Understand the underlying architecture and service models a. This course will elaborate different service models such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) b. By understanding architecture and service models, participants can evaluate the scope and control between the cloud service provider and cloud service consumer (user) over the cloud computing environment c. Course will demonstrate usage of one popular service from each service model. This will help participants in evaluating the feasibility of migrating an existing enterprise application into cloud environment d. Course will be designed to include lab sessions during which the participants will be able to implement simple working solutions using different service models. 4. Apply suitable application migration strategies a. Participants will be taught about intricacies involved in choosing different service models, best practices for each service models, strategies and other beneficial practical tips. b. The course provides a real life scenario based case study. In teams, participants will identify suitable migration strategies using a guided checklist. The solution will be presented for review and suggestions by the instructors. c. Based on the workshops and demonstrations, participants will identify appropriate tools for the development of flexible, scalable and interoperable cloud applications
