About this Course

Attacks can be made against virtually any layer of software, from network protocols to applications. The effect of an attack can results in a wide range of effects, from minor to severe. The aim of this workshop is to equip learners with the basic knowledge to identify the key security threats that may result in the disruption of services. This workshop also covers the threats to network systems and the countermeasures that can be put in place to minimise them.

Pre-Requisite

Network Fundamentals has to be completed

Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to;

  • Discuss the aims of computer security and analyse security breaching attacks
  • Explain the history of encryption and the application of current forms of encryption, their role in society and the issues that surround their use
  • Identify a range of network and Internet related security issues including current types of attacks and appropriate countermeasures
  • Appreciate the nature of threats and risks
  • Recognise the meaning and importance of the terms Identification, Authentication and Authorisation and the technologies to enforce these concepts.

Target Audience

This course provides a foundation for people with little or no computer networking background.
