About this Course

The main aim of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Spa Treatments is to enable Candidates to provide treatments for the purposes of relaxation and stress release, by using Spa Treatments, Hydrotherapy and Seaweed products and appealing to the five senses.

The ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Spa Treatments is comprised of 1 unit containing 3 elements – knowledge, skills and evidence of treatments.

Course Outline

Unit 16 Spa Treatments

This unit is aimed at students who wish to know understand and explain the history and concept of Spas, the importance of creating and maintaining the correct atmosphere and ambience within a Spa. For this unit, there are a few components such as exfoliation, steam and sauna, bodymasks/wraps and sea water seaweed treatments, water treatment and hydrotherapy.

For the exfoliation component, it is to facilitate students to understand and be able to explain the various methods of exfoliation/desquamation, to learn about the application technique and to understand and explain the contraindications to treatment.

For the steam and sauna component, it is to facilitate students in understanding the therapeutic effects of steam and sauna treatments, the differences between wet and dry heat, safety procedures required for each treatment and its contraindications.

For the bodymasks/wraps component, it is to facilitate students to understand and ensure appropriate client care, the contraindications to wraps and masks, selection of treatment areas and appropriate application of mask/wrap.

For the sea water and seaweed treatments component, it is to facilitate students to understand the contraindications to seaweed treatments, the different types of seaweed and their uses, application of seaweed treatment and home care procedure.

For the water treatment component, it is to facilitate students in understanding and explaining the ways to treat water to maintain hygiene and how it affects the hydrotherapy treatment and the changes thatwill occur in the body during water treatment.

For the hydrotherapy component, it is to facilitate students to understand the contraindications, benefits and procedure to hydrotherapy treatment.

Classroom Duration – 50 Hours

Full-Time – 1 Month x 5 Days Per Week x 5 Hours Per Day

Manner of Teaching

Teaching will be conducted through lectures, discussion strategies, group activities, role play and by using visual aids.

Course Commencement Date

Courses will commence on every 1st and 15th of every month.

Certificate Conferring Body

Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Spa Treatments by International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC).

  • Graduates progression pathway is subject to the respective Institutions’ entry requirements at the point of application.
  • Foreigner’s application for jobs in Singapore is subject to the approval from the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore (MOM). MDI DOES NOT GUARANTEE any success rate of approval.

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that Candidates hold at least 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C or equivalent are recommended, but this is not essential. This is at the discretion of MDI and adult returners’ experience will be considered.

Other than the mentioned pre-requisites, the students should also have the following:

  • Students must be able to read and write in English or Chinese. Other cases will be considered on a case-to-case basis.
  • Students should be of a minimum of 16 years of age to be eligible for the courses.
  • For foreign students, relevant passes are required.

Students who do not meet the minimum entry requirement will be required to undergo an entrance test at MDI.

Graduation Requirement

Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant certificates:

  1. Candidates must complete all modules with at least 75% (90% for International students) in attendance for each module to qualify for a full diploma.
  2. All units are graded Pass or Refer.
  3. If a candidate is unsuccessful in any area, they will be re-assessed only in the unit where they have not achieved a pass grade.
  4. Learners must achieve a pass grade in all assessments to achieve the ITEC Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service.
