About this Course

An opportunity to become skilled in the specialist area of make-up for the fashion and entertainment industry. A growing demand exists for skilled make-up artists, especially those capable of creating special effects with no damage to the artistes made up.

The main aim of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma is to enable candidates to develop skills in the application of make-up in Fashion, Theatrical and Media settings, including Special effects and to provide skills at Level 3 in the National Qualification Framework for those interested in the Beauty Therapy industry

Course Outline

Unit 10 Make-up

This unit enables students to understand and assess the client’s skin type and characteristics, recognise those contraindications to make-up and understand the selection of make-up according to occasion, client colouring, age and preferences. The unit also aims at enabling students to perform appropriate correction, concealing of flaws, perform appropriate contour and highlight on client’s face.

Unit 41 Fashion Theatre and Media Make-up

This unit aims to provide students the understanding of different skin type/condition, recognise different skin tones, understand the contraindications to make-up and the effects of lighting on different make-up. The unit also aims at enabling students to perform selection of make-up according to the occasion, demonstrate application of make-up bases, contouring and highlighting, application of false eyelashes, application of lip make-up and produce a portfolio of 30 characters.

Unit 42 Special Effects

  • This unit enables students to demonstrate competency in the application of various casualty effects, understand the use of bald caps and the technique used for the application of false hair. The unit also aims at enabling students to check for skin conditions, demonstrate high standards of professionalism throughout the make-up application and make-up removal.

Unit 22 Professional Conduct and Business Awareness

  • This unit aims to provide understanding on maintaining a professional working relationship with other students/therapists, understanding on the impact of advertising, the necessity of having professional indemnity insurance, ensuring strict client confidentiality of clients and understanding the need for client’s consent. The unit is also aimed at demonstrating how to put client into the recovery position, supervise an evacuation in case of a fire alarm, carry out basic safety checks for electrical equipment and to promote the appropriate body language at all times.

Courses will commence on every 1st and 15th of every month.

Certificate Conferring Body

Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Fashion Theatre and Media Make-up by International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC).

  • Graduates progression pathway is subject to the respective Institutions’ entry requirements at the point of application.
  • Foreigner’s application for jobs in Singapore is subject to the approval from the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore (MOM). MDI DOES NOT GUARANTEE any success rate of approval.

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that Candidates hold at least 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C or equivalent are recommended, but this is not essential. This is at the discretion of MDI and adult returners’ experience will be considered.

Other than the mentioned pre-requisites, the students should also have the following:

  1. Students must be able to read and write in English or Chinese. Other cases will be considered on a case-to-case basis.
  2. Students should be of a minimum of 16 years of age to be eligible for the courses.
  3. For foreign students, relevant passes are required.

Students who do not meet the minimum entry requirement will be required to undergo an entrance test at MDI.

Graduation Requirement

Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant certificates:

  1. Candidates must complete all modules with at least 75% (90% for International students) in attendance for each module to qualify for a full diploma.
  2. Evidence of treatments is graded as either a Pass or Fail.
  3. If a candidate is unsuccessful in any area, they will be expected to re-sit only the unit where they have not achieved a pass grade, to which they will be referred. Referrals should be completed within one year of the original examination provided that re-sits are attempted at least once every three months.
