IP Management in Research Collaboration

About this Course

Universities and research institutions enter in to a variety of agreements that relate to intellectual property.

The most common are non-disclosure agreements, licenses, sponsored research agreements and material transfer agreements. There are however other agreements that can have hidden intellectual property terms as well. Part of this workshop will cover general issues related to license agreements and materials transfer agreements such as risk, liability and warranty. The workshop will mainly cover intellectual property issues that arise from these agreements and need to be managed; how these issues relate to confidential information that is either received or provided; negotiating commercial terms in licenses; and monitoring agreements and licensee compliance.

The importance of market research, marketing and business intelligence will also be discussed in relationship to crafting the appropriate terms for negotiating commercial terms.
