About this Course

You walk into a retail shop and the latest apparel catches your eye. Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes before your favourite apparel gets onto the display shelf?

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge to assist in the buying process, liaise with suppliers for prompt delivery and distribution of merchandise to retail outlets as well as manage the documentation process for the orders placed.

Higher Nitec in Retail Merchandising graduates with good results may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics.

Career Prospects

Higher Nitec in Retail Merchandising graduates are employed by the retail establishments that sell merchandise ranging from supermarkets to apparel to furniture.  Some of the job titles held by graduates include Retail Merchandising Assistant, Retail Buying Assistant, Assistant Buyer and Purchasing Assistant.

There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for students to upgrade their technical skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level courses.

Entry Requirements 

To apply for the Higher Nitec in Retail Merchandising course,  you need to have:

GCE 'O' level grades in English Language, Mathematics/Principles of Accounts and 1 other subject
