About this Course

The programme aims to fulfill the following objective:

  • Enable participants to acquire sufficient breadth of knowledge, deeper insights and greater understanding of the interdisciplinary areas of business and finance.
  • Provide participants with a structured training for personal and career development and job knowledge. It is also an endorsement of their competence in attaining both academic and practical understanding of the subject matters.

Module Descriptions

Business Law

  • This module provides participants with an understanding of the Singapore legal framework from the business perspective. Participants will be able to explain the basic principles of the law of contract and identify legal issues and problems that arise in business transactions and disputes.
  • Topics include: formation of contract, sale and supply of goods and services, Law of Agency, Law of Partnership, Company Law and Law of Torts. 

Corporate Finance

  • This module introduces participants to the principles and techniques involved in investment decision-making and basic financial statement analysis and their implication.
  • Topics include: overview of financial reporting, short-term financial management, capital structure, cost of capital, valuation of securities, operating & financial leverage, dividend policies, time value of money, investment decision techniques and analysis and interpretation of financial statements. 

Cost and Management Accounting for Decision Making

  • This module provides participants with the knowledge and skill to plan, implement and decide the right course of action to attain the profitability the organisation deserves.
  • Topics include: cost behaviour and breakeven analysis, absorption costing and marginal costing techniques, relevant costs and opportunity cost concept for decision making, budgeting and budgetary control and product pricing strategies. 

Singapore Taxation

  • This module introduces participants to the Singapore tax framework.
  • Topics include: issues pertaining to taxable income and tax-deductible expenses, capital allowances, and taxation of individuals and companies including non-residents, basic tax planning and anti-avoidance provisions and goods and services tax. 

Strategic Business Planning and Development

  • This module is designed to provide participants with a sound understanding of how managers can become strategically aware of their company’s competitive environments and the need to respond to opportunities and threats. It discusses the significance of market positioning and describes strategies that entrepreneurial firms can use to compete effectively.
  • Topics include: product portfolio management, external environmental scanning, internal assessment of strengths & weaknesses, formulating strategies, preparation of a business plan, and nature of global competition and exit strategies.

Entry Requirements

  • Degree / Diploma from a recognised university or institution and have preferably 2 years of working experience
  • Applicants must demonstrate Proficiency in English (with minimum grade C Pass in English at GCE 'O' Level)

Applicants without C6 pass in English (EL1) as First Language or its equivalent are required:

To sit and pass the English Entrance Test conducted by MDIS;

    OR

To score a minimum of band 6.0 in IELTS conducted by the British Council;

    OR

To score 213 points (computer-based) or 550 points (paper-based) in TOEFL

Other equivalent qualifications may be considered on a case by case basis

Age Requirement

Applicants must be of age 16 and above
