The Foundation Certificate for Higher Education offers the opportunity for students to develop the essential skills and knowledge to perform effectively in higher education and to increase their chance of success. It is engineered to bridge the difference in skill and knowledge set between students with diverse educational backgrounds which includes students whose first language is not English.
Programme Module Synopsis :
Learning Skills
The course aims to develop in the students the essential skills in learning including time management, goal setting, stress management, effective research and study skills, group learning and techniques in passing assessments.
Critical Thinking
This enrichment course introduces the use of critical thinking skills to enhance their academic and non-academic endeavours. Students will develop the ability to reason clearly and critically, and interpretation of information for effective decision-making. Decision making involves identification of problem and facts, generating the possible courses of action and selecting the best solution. These are essential skills that students should develop not only for academic purposes but more so for professional and personal growth.
Computer Applications
This course aims to enable students to select and use software applications to present information in the most appealing ways to
readers, including appropriate use of graphics, table, charts, and illustrations. Students will be given practical lessons in word-processing, spread-sheet, presentation and basic systems maintenance. The course will also provide students an overview of systems security and protection.
Mathematics
This course aims to provide students introductory statistics skills enabling them to analyse empirical data and interpretation of statistical data meaningfully. Student will also develop skills in recognizing graphical representations and interpreting them for the purpose of decision-making.
Proficiency in English
Proficiency in English provides students with a strong foundation in English that will enable them to advance their studies in Higher Education. In addition, the programme serves to prepare students for TOEFL/IELTS examinations.

Each lesson is 3 hours and is conducted in a classroom setting at Informatics Campus.
