Post-Diploma Certificate in Essential Clinical Knowledge in Palliative Care (for Nurses and Allied Healthcare Professionals) Module Synopsis Common Cancers This module gives a broad overview of current understanding of cancer biology, screening, the diagnosis of cancer, general principles and modalities of treatment, clinical trials, and relate these principles to specific common cancers. Pain and Symptom management This module covers the pathophysiology, assessment and management of common symptoms in life-limiting illnesses, in particular cancer. Palliative care in non-cancer illnesses This module covers the role of palliative care in life-limiting non-malignant illness, in particular end-stage organ failure. Communication, Psychosocial skills This module examines the psychosocial perspective in oncology palliative care nursing. It focuses on psychosocial intervention issues and strategies applicable to the oncology and palliative care nurse.
