About this Course

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) Real Estate is designed to provide students in Singapore with enhanced technical knowledge and understanding in order to progress their careers, balancing this with the ability to think critically, reason, analyse, research and evaluate, the skills associated with higher education.

Thus the BSc programme provides both the life skills and technical knowledge necessary to further pursue a professional career within the realm of real estate.

The work of the real-estate professional is diverse and constantly responding to change.On taking up this programme, you can look forward to gaining knowledge as well as technical skills combined with strategic thinking and interpersonal and communication skills. This programme complements students’ prior learning in the Advanced Diploma, leading students through the life of property from its conception and planning, design and construction, purchase and sale, use and occupation, maintenance and management through to its eventual demolition and redevelopment. The course also engenders an appreciation of the world of business and commerce in which property assets exist and personal and corporate management skills areneeded to take part in that world. This course delivers the necessary context, knowledge base and transferable skills for the real-estate professional.

Real Estate essentially refers to land and all the developments on it. It includes different sorts of businesses and strategic activities, right from site selection to the conduction of market studies and important investment decisions.It also involves a number of disciplines from law, urban planning, valuation and finance management, which are a source of information for real estate professionals, to make sure that the market price of real estate remains at its best at all stages. Those who take up this programme should have a keen interest in different topics such as planning, development, management, as well as the social, economic, political and technical facets of the built environment. Graduates from this course can look forward to a career in real estate fund management, real estate development and investment, urban planning, property valuation and corporate real estate management.

*Student who have successfully completed and graduated from the above mentioned program with at least 5 years in the execution of construction projects, can apply to BCA as a General Builder GB Class 1 Technical Controller.

ASSESSMENTS Assignment and Written Examination :

Includes continuous coursework assessment, assignments, presentations, 

reports portfolio as well as minimum examinations.

The programme aims to provide learners with:

  • A learning experience that integrates the academic and vocational elements of estate management so that students are able to develop their understanding and powers of critical analysis;
  • Added value by facilitating the acquisition, development and enhancement of the requisite transferable skills to enable them to succeed in professional practice;
  • A knowledge, understanding and critical awareness of the theory and practice of estate management and the analytical skills necessary to tackle problems encountered in this wide-ranging field;
  • A thorough understanding of the economic, legal, social, political, business management and financial aspects of estate management;
  • A critical awareness of the human and community problems of land use, appraisal, allocation and management taking into account, where appropriate, an understanding of wider international concepts.

Programme structure and requirements, levels, modules, credits and awards :

The BSc (Hons) programme is available on a part-time study basis over the course of 15

months. The programme is divided into study units called modules, and these are either

double (30 credits) or single (15 credits). Students complete 120 credits at each of Level

4, Level 5 and Level 6. Each 15 credit module represents150 hours of student learning

and assessment.

DURATION Part time : 15 months

Part time : Twice a week (3 hours per day)

Weekday : 7pm to 10pm (36 hours per module)

ENTRY REQUIREMENT(S)

  • GSTM Specialist Diploma & Advanced Diploma in Real Estate Management (inclusive of free bridging module – Professional Practice Project 2

Other qualification may apply subjected to Birmingham City University approval such as :

  • Pearson BTEC Level 5 in relevant field
  • Other equivalent qualification from recognized institutions
  • Minimum requirement for English Language GCE C6 or IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL equivalent
