Our Bachelor of Education is an Australian approved teacher education program. As a JCU Education graduate, you will have the skills and qualifications to seek employment across Australia, Singapore* and beyond.
Early childhood is a highly specialised field that focuses on the education of children from birth to age 8 with a special focus on Kindergarten, Prep and Years 1-3.
* Based on the current programme outline, graduates from this programme would meet the Early Childhood Development Agency’s professional qualification requirements for teacher certification.

32 subjects successfully completed to earn 96 credits. Academic advice on which subjects to take is available during the admissions process and at the end of every term.
Course Structure

The entry requirement for the course is satisfactory completion of 12 years of schooling or equivalent.
All students must meet minimum literacy standards as required by the Queensland College of Teachers
English Language Requirement for All Students
- IELTS 7.5 (with no score below 7 in any of the four skills areas, and a score of no less than 8 in speaking and listening)/TOEFL iBT 100 (with minimum writing score of 23) and above; or
- Students who have successfully completed 2 years of full-time study in English medium may satisfy the English Language Requirement
Additional Completion Requirements
41 days of Professional Experience must be undertaken in Australia for students to be eligible for registration as a teacher in Australia. Travel cost and living expenses in Australia will be at students' own cost.
Attendance Requirements
International students holding a valid student’s passes are required to attend at least 90% of scheduled classes per month. Failure to attend classes is a breach of the student visa conditions. Being absent from classes for a continuous period of seven days or more, or attendance falling below 90% without valid reasons will result in the student needing to surrender their Student pass for cancellation.
Domestic students must attend at least 75% of the scheduled lecture and tutorial activities to be eligible for assessment.
- Credit exemption may be granted for students with tertiary qualifications from recognised institutions on a case-by-case basis.
Early childhood teachers work in schools, preschools and childcare centres. Teaching is a portable qualification and teachers are in demand throughout Singapore, Australia and overseas.
Many JCU graduates have taken the opportunity to travel and teach in Europe, Asia and North America.
