Course Overview

This module is structured under the WSQ framework to prepare the Learner in handling possible Fire emergency situations, and to be aware of Fire hazards. Learners are trained in correct procedures on handling Fire Extinguishers and Water Hose Reels in fighting fires. Learners are also trained in various evacuation concepts and activities; and guided in the model approach and procedures for evacuating people in a calm and orderly manner during an emergency.

Upon the successful completion of this training module, the Learner will undergo a structured examination using role plays and questions and answers (assessment) conducted by an independent assessor (examiner) from *POLWEL (*Police Welfare Co-operative).

General Information

A written Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be issued by the assessor to the Learner immediately at the end of the assessment stating either the Learner is competent or not yet competent. For Learners found to be competent, at a later date WDA will issue a printed certificate sent to the Learner through the Authorized Training Organization (ATO) and or Learner’s sponsor.

Course Syllabus

1.    Identify Fire Hazards and Prevent Fire Situations. 

2.    Correct usage of Portable Fire Extinguishers and Fire Hose Reels.

3.    Assist in the Evacuation of the Premise.

Training Duration:

26 hours carried out over 3 working days. 

Assessment will be conducted by POLWEL assessor upon successful completion of training.

Assessment duration: 

1 hour and 30 minutes.

Entry Requirements:

Under WSQ framework, WSQ courses are seamless that do not require pre-entry qualifications. But, as the courses and assessments are conducted in English, the Learner should be able to speak and write simple English.
