About this Course
Objectives
- To equip participants with the necessary knowledge and pre-requisites needed to pursue an undergraduate programme in Mass Communications
- To develop the analytical, planning, and communicative abilities of participants
- To enhance the effectiveness of participants' practical skills and techniques through action-based training
Structure and Professional Practice of Print Media
To introduce students to the impact, function, development and effects of the print media in the contemporary world.
Media Ethics and Law
To introduce students to the legal and ethical aspects of Publishing and Broadcasting.
Advertising: Strategic Planning & Management
To introduce students to all facets of the advertising profession.
Structure and Professional Practice of Broadcast Media
To introduce students to the impact, function, development and effects of the electronic media in the contemporary world.
Mass Media Research
To introduce students to the fundamentals of mass communication research methods and the application of such research in mass media.
Public Relations: Strategic Planning & Management
To introduce students to the current policies and procedures in the practice of public relations.
Graduation Project
As part of the requirement for successful completion of the Advanced Diploma in Mass Communications programme, all course participants will have to undertake a graduation project.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be of age 16 and above and meet at least one of the following requirements:
Full GCE 'A' Levels (with average 'C' grade and excluding language subjects)
OR
Diploma from MDIS or other recognised local/overseas polytechnics or other Private Education Institutes (PEI)
OR
Other equivalent qualification may be considered on a case by case basis.
Additional Criteria:
Applicants must possess a C6 credit in English (EL1) at GCE 'O' Level, or
- Achieve a minimum of band 5.5 (with no sub-band less than 5.0) in IELTS (International English Language Testing System); or
- Score a minimum of 196 points (computer-based), 69-70 points (internet-based) or 525 points (paper-based) in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); or
- Applicants may be exempted from IETLS if they have completed at least two years and graduated from a government accredited high school where English is the primary language of instruction. A letter of verification from the school is required for admission consideration.
Advanced Diploma graduates who wish to apply to Bachelor of Arts (in Liberal Studies with concentration in Mass Communications) programme must meet its additional entry requirements.
