About this Course

Our Advanced Diploma in Animation offers Specialisation into One of the Three Core Disciplines of Animation

This 1-year program aims to nurture students with a mastery of the skills required to become an expert animator and video producer. Students will be able to choose their specialization in Character Animation, 3D Modelling or Visual Effects in their year of study.

This programme provides an in-depth education in multimedia, software skills and project expertise required in the Animation industry. By using 2D, 3D and emulative tools and the latest software, students will be able to create high quality movies and consider critical business elements in their video design and development projects. Our industry driven modules would also give them a competitive edge over other animators. Our graduates will be animation design and production professionals who are able to create innovative and market–driven videos for the new-media economy.

Curriculum

Our industry-standard curriculum is based on the recommendations of our illustrious Academic Board, made up of some of the most recognized faces in the local games industry. Our curriculum is designed to arm students with the knowledge needed to specialise in one of the three core disciplines of Animation. 

Students can expect:

Choice of Specialisation in either Character Animation, Visual Effects or 3D Modelling

Introduction & Practical Application for Various Software Tools (e.g. Nuke, Z-Brush, Marmoset)

Student-to-Lecturer Ratio (9:1)

Our low student-to-lecturer ratio, 9 students to 1 lecturer, means that each student within the class is given adequate attention during the course of their education. Armed with industry experience, our mentors and lecturers are primed to pass on advice and guidance regarding industry standards and practices.

Industry Experience

Students will be given a MAGES Guided Project at the end of their course, where they will work under guidance alongside a development studio—earning precious industry experience during the course of their education.

Portfolio Development

At MAGES, there is a distinct focus on the development of the student’s portfolio, in order to increase their employability upon graduation.

Full Time – 5 days a week & 5 hours a day

Part Time – 3 days a week & 3 hours a day

Entry Requirement

Intake Consideration:

Applicants must have a passion for creation, a love for media and entertainment, and willingness to strive for good results.

Age:

17 years old (based on date of birth) by the date that classes start.

Academic Qualifications:

  • GCE ‘A’ Level Pass or
  • Students who have passed 12 years of education (Senior High School level) with an average score of 65% for all subjects, and proof of passing in English or
  • Student who have graduated from MAGES, Diploma in Animation or
  • Students who have other qualifications similar to MAGES, Diploma in Animation. (MAGES may require these students to study some modules from the MAGES Diploma before gaining entry into Advanced Diploma) or
  • Diploma (Animation related study) or
  • Higher NITEC (Animation related study)
English Proficiency:

  • GCE ‘O’ Level English grade D7 required for IT and Gaming programmes related courses or
  • Other programmes require a minimum of C6 English grade or
  • For all students who have not studied English up to senior high level would need to have completed IELTS 5.5
If student does not meet any of the above English Requirements, then the following apply:

  • Other equivalent qualifications where the medium of instruction is English or
  • Student may attend additional English classes and pass at the equivalent of Upper Intermediate Level or
  • Pass interview with the Academic Director and assessment by the Academic Board on a case by case basis
